DIY “Toms”

I love the Toms trend but I don’t have the extra $ to get the name brand.. so when I saw these white ones for like 5 bucks at Rue 21 I thought of a plan to make them my own. :)

First I dyed them pink (which really wasn’t necessary) and then pained them with pink sparkle fabric paint.  To make the raised polka dots I did dots of fabric glue and sprinkled fabric sparkles on it.  After I glued a strip of pink polka dot fabric on the bottom rim with fabric glue.

P.S If you feel bad about not having a pair of shoes donated from your purchase there are plenty of places in your hometown that would be glad to have your second hand shoes. I’ve donated clothes and shoes to my local Women’s Community Shelter. :)

Hunger Games DIY Quiver T-Shirt

I’m going to see the midnight premiere of The Hunger Games tomorrow! I decided to make a shirt to wear.  The back is a quiver with arrows and the front is the strap and the mocking jay pin.

A tad obsessive? Yes. But no one can obsess like me. ;)

To make it I used a homemade stencil and fabric paint.

I’ll post picture with it on when it dries :)

Valentine’s Day Treats

For Valentine’s Day I made some heart shaped Meringue Cookies.  These are my favorite because they are so light and delicate!

The recipe is really simple and low in fat and calories.

014

It is basically just 4 egg whites and 2 cups of powdered sugar whipped until foamy.  For chocolate flavor I added a tablespoon coco powder.  I put the mixture in in a large Ziploc bag and piped it on a cookie sheet lined with parchment.  The trick for airy meringues is in the baking, however.  I baked them at 325 degrees for three hours (or until dry) with a wooden spoon keeping the oven door ajar slightly.

I hope everyone has a sweet and happy Valentine’s Day!

This is the Year!

Happy New Year!

I’m sure many of you have heard of the Mayan Calendar that ends this year December 21 2012.  I may not believe that the world will end this year, but I know through scripture that Jesus is going to return to take up his people soon.

So I have decided that this is the year to make and complete a bucket list.  To do the things I've always wanted to do and do things for God that I have been holding back on.  I want to be a better servant, be more compassionate, learn to play guitar… and so much more!

“Then the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. As the bridegroom was delayed, they all became drowsy and slept. But at midnight there was a cry, ‘Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’ Then all those virgins rose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ But the wise answered, saying, ‘Since there will not be enough for us and for you, go rather to the dealers and buy for yourselves.’ And while they were going to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the marriage feast, and the door was shut. Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open to us.’ But he answered, ‘Truly, I say to you, I do not know you.’ Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.

Matthew 25:1-3

We may not know when Jesus will return, but I want to be ready!

Isn't this year as good as any to start?

Vintage Military Bag Upcycle

At a flea market I picked up about twenty vintage military bags.  The man selling them had a sign that said “Man Purses.” :)   For Christmas I decided to fancy one up for my mom.  I took vintage buttons and made an American Flag pattern.  I used quilting thread which is extra thick and then I glued a piece of fabric to the back to avoid the thread being cut on accident.  It took me a long time, but I think it turned out well. :)

Making Christmas presents saves money and I think make better presents anyway.  I just had to wait to post it to my blog so I wouldn’t ruin the surprise ;)

Did you make any Christmas presents?
